OneDrive is a cloud computing service similar to Dropbox and Google Drive that allows users to upload and sync files to a cloud storage and then access them via a browser or OneDrive software installed on a laptop, PC or smartphone. By storing data on OneDrive, You can access the data from anywhere, even editing word or excel files using a browser is possible with the web version of Microsoft Office.

I have used OneDrive for more than 10 years, when the name was still SkyDrive. One of the reasons I use OneDrive is to make sure my data is safe when my laptop is damaged, even lost.

In this article, we will show you how to move the OneDrive folder without having to re-download all files when we change the laptop or replace the hard drive. If our files stored on OneDrive were 10 GB, of course it would take a long time to download all of them. For the record, this procedure can be performed when the File on Demand option is disabled, which means the file is stored on the device.

The following procedure can also be done if you intend to move the OneDrive folders which are all on drive C to another drive, for example from C to D.

The steps for moving the OneDrive folder without re-downloading the files are as follows:

The first step is to check where the OneDrive folder is, right-click the OneDrive icon on the taskbar, select settings, select choose folder.

The second step is that you need to unlink the PC with the OneDrive user.

The third step, move the OneDrive folder to the location that you have specified, for example in D.

The fourth step, open the OneDrive software and log back in with the account that was previously unlinked. When setting the folder, navigate to the new location. Make sure the File on Demand option is disabled, which means the file will be stored on the device.

OneDrive will read all the files in the folder, if there are already files there, OneDrive will not download from the server.

Good luck.
